For the past two years, NP Innovation’s senior R&D engineer Fredrik Bergling and his team have been dedicated to developing the BioGuard SWIFT panel. After nearly 100 prototypes tested in the lab, the final product was launched on August 19, marking its debut on the global market.

The project began with several key objectives: reduce the lifetime cost of the panels, replace entire cassettes with a modular system to minimize waste, design the panel from a single material without glue for easier recycling, and, most importantly, create a 100% tool-free solution for maintenance simplicity.

– The biggest challenge was scaling down from a large cassette to freestanding panels without screws or glue while maintaining the same robust standard, explains Fredrik Bergling.

– At the same time, we wanted to lower the lifetime cost of the filter without compromising quality, and ensure the panel had a smaller environmental footprint. We had to rethink and refine every single part of the construction to reach the solution we have today. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved.

When asked what he is most proud of now that the panel is available, Fredrik says:

– Simply that we managed to do it. We created a product that not only withstands operational pressures – it simplifies maintenance and gives fish farmers an entirely new levels of control over their processes.

The development of sustainable fish farming—both on land and at sea—remains a constant priority. For Fredrik and his team, the work continues: improving, simplifying, and creating more flexible solutions for users.

Looking ahead at the market, what do you see?

– I believe a lot of focus will shift toward automation—letting processes take care of themselves and advancing the technology within facilities. There will also be continued emphasis on simplifying user control through automated troubleshooting and reducing the need for manual maintenance.

And what about the team’s future projects?

– Of course, we will continue to develop and automate our products. Our work is always aimed at increasing particle removal efficiency, and we’ll also focus on creating more flexible filter solutions. We’ve seen a growing need to tailor filter designs to suit the unique requirements of different facilities. More information on our latest innovation: BioGuard SWIFT with TIDE technology
